Description

Brock's Almshouses, dated 1847, are a pair of semi-detached almshouse cottages constructed from Delabole Mate rubble. They feature a slate roof with gabled ends, ornate bargeboards, and wall pendants at the eaves. A string course runs at floor level, and the quoins are stuccoed. The buildings are two storeys high with two window ranges, showcasing three-light casements that include glazing bars and flat brick arches. There are no ground floor windows at the front. Centrally located are a pair of doorways beneath a wide gabled porch. Above the doorways is a stone plaque inscribed with "Brook's Almshouse 1847 John Crotch Mayor." Brick chimney stacks are positioned at the gable ends, and there is a small single-storey wing at each end of the cottages.
