Description
Town Mill is an early 19th-century water mill located on Mill Road. It is a tall building constructed of stone rubble with granite quoins and features a low-pitched slate roof with gabled ends. The mill has three storeys and an attic. On the second storey, there are three iron-frame windows with glazing bars and small opening lights, while the ground floor has two similar windows. The first floor has central doors and loading doors above, equipped with a hoist. There is also an iron-frame attic window in the gable end. At the north end of the mill, there is an overshot iron water-wheel inscribed "J Luxton, Heatherleigh 1882." The internal machinery has been removed. In the 19th century, this mill was one of three in Okehampton and is likely situated on a medieval site.
