Description
Nos 1 and 3 on St James Street are a granite building dating from around the 17th century, featuring a stuccoed first storey and a slate roof with gabled ends. The building is two storeys high and consists of four window bays. The first storey has horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars and modern louvred shutters, while No 1 has a casement window with glazing bars. The ground storey includes small modern shop fronts and doorways. A massive granite chimney stack is located at the ridge between Nos 1 and 2, complete with granite drip courses. No 2 has a small gable at the rear with a sash window and a gabled wing that dates from the 17th or 18th century. No 1, at the left-hand (north-east) end, is likely an 18th-century addition.
