Description
Lloyds Bank, dated 1908, is located on the north side of West Street. Designed by architect Horace Field, this building showcases a Neo-Georgian style, constructed with ashlar and roughcast. It features a slate hipped roof with a prominent heavy modillion eaves cornice that projects forward at the center, which consists of three bays topped with a large pediment. The structure has three storeys and a bay arrangement of 1:3:1. The advanced central three bays and the ground floor are finished in ashlar, while the left and right first and second storeys are roughcast with quoins. The building includes sash windows with glazing bars set in moulded stone architraves, with moulded cills on the first floor that have keyblocks. A band runs at the first floor level. The central ground floor window is adorned with an open segmental pediment supported by console brackets, featuring a large cartouche in a round-headed niche above. The right-hand side has a moulded round-arched entrance doorway with a keyblock, and there is a moulded right-hand return to Market Street with eight bays, with both sides under segmental pediments.
