Description
This pair of Dennis headstones, located approximately 8 metres west of the Church of St Thomas of Canterbury, dates from 1756 and 1784 and commemorates John Dennis and his father Philip. Made of slate, the right-hand headstone for John features a straight head with curved sides and a curved winged angel's head, surrounded by ornate scrolled decoration and additional detailing down the sides. The left-hand headstone for Philip also has a straight head but with scrolled sides, topped by three winged angel's heads and inscribed with the words "Distinguished for his industry probity and blameless life," along with an epitaph below.
