Description
The Railway Station in North Tawton, built in 1865, is a disused station building and station-master's house. The structure features walls made of irregularly sized stone blocks that are coursed, topped with gable-ended slate roofs and three stone stacks—two at either end of the house and one in the center of the single-storey building.
On the left is the two-storey station-master's house, which contains two heated rooms, while the one-storey station building on the right includes a ticket office and waiting room. The house has a double-gabled front with two original sash windows, consisting of one and two lights, set in arched openings with contrasting plastered stone architraves. The central doorway features a 19th-century panelled door. The station building has a doorway to the left of center with an arched head, flanked by similar one-light windows, and a three-light window at the right end.
The rear elevation, facing the platform, mirrors the front but in reverse, and retains its original platform canopy over the recessed section, supported by ornate wrought iron brackets and a wooden fretwork frieze.
