Description

This unoccupied house, located approximately 30 metres west of Incott Farmhouse, was originally a farmhouse and is now used partly for agricultural purposes and partly for storage. It dates from the early 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century. The structure features cob walls that incorporate some stone rubble, and it has a corrugated iron roof that dips to the right end and is gabled to the left.

The original layout likely consisted of a two-room plan with a through passage, but only the passage and the hall to its left remain. The hall contains a fireplace that backs onto the passage; it was probably originally open to the roof, although it is uncertain if the tiled fireplace is original. If it is not, it likely dates from when the ceiling was inserted in the late 16th century. The house may have been abandoned as early as the early 17th century, around the time when Incott Farmhouse was built nearby, although it may have gradually declined until part of it had to be demolished.

The exterior is two-storey high, though the ceiling has been removed internally. The front is asymmetrical and features an original round-headed wooden doorframe with roll moulding at the right-hand end, along with an inserted doorway into the hall at the centre. Inside, there is a large granite-framed hall fireplace with a chamfered lintel that rests on shaped granite corbels. The half beam above the fireplace is chamfered with pyramid stops, and one face-pegged jointed cruck remains in the hall, which may be smoke-blackened, though the darkening is not consistent across the entire truss.
