Description
Lower Trecott is a house that may have originally been a farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century, with possible origins in the 16th century. The building features rendered rubble and cob walls and has a gable-ended concrete tile roof. There is a projecting rendered rubble stack at the right gable end with a brick shaft, and an axial granite ashlar stack that is offset from the ridge, complete with a moulded dripcourse and tapering cap. Additionally, there is a rendered stack at the gable end of the rear wing.
The original plan was a three-room-and-through-passage layout, but the lower end to the left has been demolished. The hall stack backs onto the passage, and a small wing behind the inner room was likely added in the 18th century. The exterior is two storeys high, with an asymmetrical front that has three windows. These include early 20th century two- and three-light casements, except for the larger ground floor right-hand window, which is mid 20th century. There is a 20th century glazed door at the left-hand end leading to the passage, and a semi-circular oven projection immediately to the right of the door. A 20th century part-glazed porch is located at the right-hand end. The interior was inaccessible during the survey but is likely to contain early open fireplaces and ceiling beams, and the tile roof structure may also be of interest.
