Description
Higher Corscombe Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a 20th-century addition and alterations. The building features plastered cob walls, except for the left-hand end wall, which is made of stone rubble and incorporates some dressed granite. The roof is thatched, gabled to the right end and hipped to the left.
The current layout consists of two rooms heated by gable end fireplaces, with a possibly integral barn at the left end. A 20th-century addition has been constructed at the rear. The exterior is two storeys high, with an asymmetrical front that has two windows, featuring early 20th-century two and three-light casements. There is a central 20th-century gabled porch with glazed doors. The barn at the left-hand end has a central doorway, a slit opening to its left, a window to its right, and a loading hatch above. An attached 19th-century outbuilding is located at the right-hand end.
Inside, the right-hand room has a fireplace with a high chamfered wooden lintel and granite jamb on the left, with an oven built into the right side under a tile lintel. The other fireplace likely has a replacement lintel. The absence of visible roof timbers on the first floor suggests they may date from the 18th century or later.
