Description

A 17th-century farmhouse with an adjoining stable, later converted into a separate property called Ronjen, is located in Ashwater Langford. The farmhouse is constructed of whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings, with a slate roof gabled at the ends. A stone ashlar stack on the ridge provides heat to the main hall, while a brick chimney shaft on a stone stack marks the left gable end, heating the inner room. Originally, the plan likely included three rooms and a through passage, with the hall stack positioned against the passage and the lower end rebuilt as a stable block, probably in the 19th century. In the late 20th century, the rear of the passage was converted into a bathroom, and the stable block was converted into Ronjen. The farmhouse has two storeys and an asymmetrical three-window front. A 20th-century porch provides access to the former passage, and a further 20th-century door is located to the left. A circa late 19th-century two-light casement window with four panes per light is found on the first floor to the left, while the remaining windows are 20th century with altered window surrounds. The interior has not been inspected. This property is one of three farms, situated in a hamlet resembling a Cornish townsplace.
