Description

Langaford Farmhouse is a C17 or earlier farmhouse, with an 19th-century wing added later. The main part of the house is built of cob on stone rubble footings, whitewashed and rendered, with a corrugated iron roof where it was formerly thatched. Some slate remains on the roof of the 19th-century wing. A large, projecting cob stack has set-offs at the left gable end, while a stone stack with a brick chimney shaft stands at the right gable end, and a brick chimney is present on the rear wing. The original layout likely comprised two rooms and a through passage; the hall, the larger room to the left, was originally heated by the cob stack. The smaller room to the right may have initially been unheated. The 19th-century wing extends to the rear of the lower end, gabled to the rear and incorporating an outshut with a catslide roof. The front of the house is asymmetrical, with three windows on the front elevation, featuring 20th-century casement windows and a 20th-century porch on the right side. A small rear projection on the main block has a catslide roof. The interior is reportedly modernized, but is said to conceal early features. Langaford Farmhouse (east) is one of three farms situated in a small hamlet, exhibiting similarities to a Cornish townsplace. The roofspace may contain features of interest.
