Small house. Probably C18. Cob on stone rubble footings, the cob rendered. Thatched roof with a plain ridge, gabled at ends, end stacks. Plan: Single depth main range, 2 rooms wide with an approximately central entrance into the right hand room and an enclosed stair between the 2 rooms with access from the right hand room, which was probably the parlour; kitchen to the left. Rear left outshut, now used as the kitchen in probably secondary, perhaps originally a dairy. Exterior: 2 storeys. Almost symmetrical 3-bay front with a C19 gabled porch in the centre. 3 first floor 2-light C20 casements with square leaded panes. 2 similar ground floor left and right casements with brick segmental arches to the windows. To the left of the porch, lighting the stair, a small 1-light window with a brick lintel. Interior: Both fireplaces have splayed jambs, bread ovens and rough-chamfered lintels. The axial beams in both rooms are probably replacements, closely-spaced joists, now exposed, were probably originally plastered-over. Roof: Not inspected but said to be pegged A frames with additional later support. An attractive traditional house sited on the lane down to Ley Marden, the former rectory. Group value with adjacent barn.
