Description

Two cottages, likely originally a small farmhouse or tenement, were constructed in the late 17th or 18th century and altered in the 19th century. The cottages are built of whitewashed rendered stone rubble and cob, with a thatched roof featuring gable ends. They have brick stacks, one at the left end, an axial stack, and a brick shaft supporting a large rubble stack with an off-set, drip, and tapered cap at the right end. The original layout was a three-room plan, with a large axial stack originally backing onto what may have been a former cross-passage, but this partition has since been removed. The two cottages are divided by this stack, and a blocked internal doorway beside it suggests they were once a single dwelling. The cottages are two storeys high, with a five-window range of late 19th or early 20th century two-light casement windows. These windows are arranged with three on the ground floor, having 3-, 2-, and 6-pane lights respectively from left to right. There are slated, lean-to porches with wide plank doors, and a plank door with a corrugated iron roof at the left end. Rear outshots are attached to each cottage. The roof structure comprises five pegged trusses with straight principal rafters and waney common rafters. The interiors have been altered.
