Description

No. 40 South Street is an 18th-century building that has undergone some alterations. It is two stories tall with a roughcast front. On either side of the central doorway, there are two splayed bays featuring three-light sash windows with glazing. The doorway has a wide moulded frame and a six-panel door with fielded upper panels, topped by a decorative dentil hood supported by foliate and volute brackets. The roof is slate-covered, and the small gables above the bays are likely a later addition. This building is part of a group of listed buildings on South Street.
