Description
Steart Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with a mid-19th century extension. It features colourwashed render over coursed slatestone rubble and has a gabled slate roof. The right end has a rendered 19th-century brick stack, while the left end has a late 18th or early 19th-century stone stack with drip courses. The building has a three-unit plan, with a central narrow hall and the main kitchen to the left. The mid-19th century extension creates an L-plan with a front left wing. It is two storeys high and has a two-window range. The centre has a late 19th-century four-panelled door, two of which are glazed, and is sheltered by a gabled open-fronted porch. There are flat rendered arches above late 19th-century three-light casements with transomed lights. The mid-19th century extension, built with similar materials, includes a 20th-century outshut to the right and steps leading to a first-floor doorway in the gable end. The interior to the right has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
