Description
Nos 101 and 102 The Square are a pair of attached houses built around 1910, designed by Orphoot and Whiting of Bideford for Christine Hamlyn. The houses are rendered and whitewashed, featuring steeply pitched gabled slate roofs and large end brick stacks on projecting rendered and whitewashed breasts. They are designed in a Tudor style with a central paired door opening, with one principal front room on each side.
The exterior is two storeys and an attic, with a symmetrical two-window width. The attics are in two very large front-facing weatherboarded gables. To the left, there are two windows with three-light mullioned and transomed casements that have diamond-paned leaded lights. To the right, there is a two-storeyed shallow semi-circular bay window with six lights on each floor, also featuring diamond-paned leaded lights. The two door openings in the centre have half-glazed doors and a pent-canopy over the doors supported by three wooden brackets. All windows and doors are original from 1910. The interior has not been seen.
