Description
St Mary's Churchyard features four walls, including gates and railings on the north and south sides, likely built around 1865. The boundary wall is made of stone rubble and is topped with a chamfered granite coping, showing marks from former railings. On the north side, there are surviving iron railings that include uprights with elaborated spear-heads and twisted standards supported by twisted brackets. The south side has a pair of iron gates with more delicate spear-heads and an arch of scrollwork above, likely intended for a lampholder, supported by standards similar to those on the north side. The gate may not be in its original position, as a nearby granite plaque indicates that this entrance to the churchyard was constructed in 1914. The east side of the wall lacks granite coping; instead, the northern half features a flat stone coping that rises to a flat-topped pier near the north end.
