Description
Ford House is a large detached house, likely built between 1844 and 1849. It features rendered stone-rubble walls and a hipped roof covered with corrugated iron, along with a rendered brick chimney. The house is two storeys high and has a four-window range, with the two middle windows slightly projecting. There are three windows on the left side wall and two on the right side wall. The ground-storey windows are filled with concrete block, while those above are boarded. A deep eaves cornice with paired brackets is present, and there are marks indicating a former verandah against the front wall. The interior has not been inspected. Notably, no building is shown on this site on the Bideford Tithe map of 1841. Captain John Pike, R.N., is listed at this location in White's 1850 Directory of Devonshire, but the house does not appear in Pigot and Co's directory of 1844. Pike owned the site in 1841, as indicated in other records from 1844.
