Description

A pair of houses at 109 and 111 Meddon Street, dating from the early to mid-19th century. The houses have solid rendered walls and a slate roof with three rendered chimneys – two on the ridge and one on a rear wing. The plan is two rooms deep. Number 109 appears to be double-fronted with a shop on the left-hand side of the ground floor, while Number 111 is single-fronted with a rear wing.

The houses have two storeys and a three-window front. Number 109 features a display window and a half-glazed shop door beneath a single entablature at the left-hand end. Number 111 has a four-panelled door with an old letterbox. The remaining windows are 6-paned sashes. A deeply projecting bracketed eaves-cornice runs along the top. The right side wall has a tall, round-arched window with small-paned glazing, likely serving as a staircase window. A conservatory is located on the left-hand side, fully glazed on a rendered base with tall, narrow panes and wooden glazing bars, and capped with a corrugated asbestos roof. The shop and conservatory were later occupied by Pulman's Nurseries. The interior has not been inspected.
