Description
This is a threshing barn with a horse engine house and an adjoining shippon, located about 50 meters southeast of Lower Lana farmhouse. It was likely built in 1857, around the same time as the farmhouse, for the Tetcott Estate. The structure features garden wall bond brick with slate roofs that are hipped at the ends, and the horse engine house is made of stone rubble with a corrugated asbestos roof.
The barn is positioned against a slope, with the higher ground side having two wide doorways leading to the threshing loft, which are sheltered by slate canopies on either side of the engine house that has a low-pitched gable-ended roof. On the lower level, the building is open-fronted, featuring four large entrances on the left, a smaller entrance on the right, and two loft loading doors. The shippon is attached to the front left of the threshing barn, creating an L-shaped plan.
Inside, the threshing loft has 19th-century scissor brace trusses, and the beam for the horse engine is still present in the horse engine house.
