Description
No. 1 The Chapelry is a cottage located in Hennock, Chudleigh Knighton. On the right-hand side of the second storey, there is a stone plaque in the gable wall, likely from the 19th century. The plaque, which is somewhat difficult to read, appears to feature a biblical quotation from the first epistle of John, chapter 3, verse 23: 'THIS IS GODS COMMANDMENT that we should believe on the name of his son Jesus Christ and love one another'. An 83-year-old woman who has lived at No. 3 The Chapelry her entire life recalls that the plaque has been in its current position for as long as she can remember. It is noted that the building is not known to have served as a chapel, and the cottage itself does not possess significant architectural interest.
