Description
Teign Lawn is a house built in the early to mid 19th century. It features rendered solid walls, likely made of stone, and has a slated roof with overhanging eaves. There are chimney stacks on each gable, with the left-hand stack made of exposed brickwork and the right-hand stack rendered. The house has a double-depth, four-room plan with a central staircase and is two storeys high.
The front of the house is symmetrical with three windows. The ground floor includes a slated verandah supported by cast-iron columns, which extends around the gable ends. On the ground floor, there are three wooden French windows, each with four panes and margin panes, along with a similar one-pane transom light above. The second-storey windows are modern plastic barred sashes.
The left-hand gable features flanking Doric pilasters with plain shafts, and the capitals are connected by a bandcourse. There are two blind doorways on the ground floor, with a central staircase that has moulded architraves, and a small modern window is located between them. The second storey has three blind windows with plain architraves. A single window with a pointed head in the gable retains some small-paned glazing at the top, and a similar window is found in the right-hand gable.
The rear wall has been re-windowed, but it still has a flush-panelled door with a cast-iron knocker, as well as a porch featuring cast-iron columns and a flat moulded wooden hood. The interior has not been fully inspected, but it is noted that the staircase is made of wood, with cut strings and thin square-section balusters. The French windows are equipped with panelled shutters.
