Description
Deer Leap Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century or possibly earlier. It is constructed of whitewashed cob and stone rubble, with a thatched roof which is gabled at the ends. A brick shaft marks the left-end chimney stack. The original layout appears to be a three-room plan with a cross passage, the lower end located to the left, with the hall stack likely having been dismantled. Single-storey additions have been added to the rear of the room on the right-hand side.
The front of the house has an asymmetrical facade with four windows. The thatched eaves project over the first-floor windows. A recessed 19th-century plank front door leads to the cross passage. The windows are timber casements with 2 and 3-light openings, and have 20th-century square leaded panes. A shallow projection exists on the rear elevation, possibly representing the truncated hall stack.
The interior was inaccessible during the 1986 survey, but potentially contains features of interest, such as early roof timbers. Further inspection of the interior might be needed to confirm the dating.
