Description
The Garden House, located approximately 30 metres south-west of Ardmore House, is an early 19th-century garden house. It features limestone rubble walls and a hipped pyramidal slate roof. The building has a square plan with a single room on the ground floor, which includes a front right entry into a store and a front left doorway providing separate access to stairs that lead to another square room above.
The facade is symmetrical with an original central small single light pointed arched window on the first floor and a similar window below, both retaining their diamond leaded lights. On either side of the central windows are pointed arch doorways with blind tympanums and square doorframes that contain plank doors. There are identical first floor windows on each side.
Inside, the building retains its original features, including a simple coved plaster ceiling in the first floor room and wooden beading around the windows. The enclosed staircase has a balustrade at the top, complete with a square newel and stick balusters. This simple structure is a relatively unusual example of its type and remains in a very complete state.
