Description
No. 3 and White Cottage are two cottages, originally a single house. They likely date from the early 17th century or earlier, and were probably divided into two cottages in the 19th century. The cottages have rendered rubble walls and a gable ended slate roof. There are two rendered rubble stacks: one at the left gable end and a lateral stack at the front. The original plan was probably of either three rooms and a through passage. The hall was heated by a front lateral stack, and a lower room to the left by the gable end stack. A 19th-century outshut is located at the left end. The front has an asymmetrical arrangement of four windows, with two windows on each floor for each cottage. No. 3 has circa early 20th-century casement windows, and a circa 20th-century part-glazed door to the right, which adjoins an identical door to White Cottage, both sheltered under a single slate porch hood. White Cottage features a single-light early 20th-century casement window to the right of the centre on the first floor, and a recessed, circa 20th-century four-light reproduction wood mullion window, possibly replacing an earlier one. Below this is a three-light early 20th-century casement with glazing bars. The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but is likely to contain original features such as beams and fireplaces. The original roof structure may also survive.
