Description

Numbers 1 and 2 Marsh Farm are a farmhouse dating from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations in the 19th century. The farmhouse is colourwashed and rendered, with a thatched roof that is gabled at each end. There are brick chimney stacks at the ends, a lateral stack in the centre at the rear, and two rear wings with red pantile roofs. A shorter rear left wing is present.

The building plan follows an overall U-shape, with a main range of a single depth, three rooms wide, and a cross passage to the right of the centre. Two rear wings are present, with an outshut between them.

The front has an asymmetrical arrangement of four windows. The eaves of the thatch are slightly eyebrowed above the first-floor windows. There are two 20th-century front doors, each with a 19th-century door hood supported on moulded brackets. The windows are mostly 19th- or 20th-century timber sash windows, the majority with a 3 over 6 pane arrangement. A 2-light timber casement window is on the first floor to the left.

The only part of the interior inspected was the right-hand end of the house, where a 17th-century moulded crossbeam is located on the ground floor. This room also contains a decorative 18th-century china cupboard with reeded jambs. The roof was not inspected, but it is said to have straight principal rafters.
