Description
Stables House is a building that was originally stables for Powderham Castle, converted into a house. It dates from the 18th century and was extended in the 20th century. The structure is built of Flemish bond brick and has a slate roof that is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right end, with a parapet concealing the centre. The building has a courtyard plan, with an extension at the right end that matches the original style.
The exterior features two storeys and an asymmetrical front, while the central section is symmetrical with five bays, a parapet, and a central front door topped by a round-headed fanlight. The ground floor has 12-pane sash windows. To the left, the front is blind and includes four large blind round-headed recesses. The 19th-century addition on the right has four round-headed windows on the ground floor with fanlights and four 12-pane sashes on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected. The building has group value with Powderham Castle.
