Description
This is a threshing barn and poundhouse, likely built in the 18th century, located approximately 35 metres northwest of Higher Goodhouse Farmhouse. The roof is covered with corrugated iron and is hipped to the right. The barn features opposing doors, wide at the front and narrow at the rear, with a horse-engine house at the rear left. The former poundhouse is attached at a slight angle to the left gable wall. The barn is single-storeyed and appears to have had a former loft at the left-hand end, while the poundhouse is lofted. The front door of the barn has a heavy wooden lintel, and there are old plank half-doors at the rear. The poundhouse door has been widened and fitted with a steel girder for a lintel, with stone steps to the right leading to the loft. Inside, the horse-engine house retains its beam, and the poundhouse has wooden fittings for former machinery attached to the ceiling beams. Both buildings feature roof trusses with collars pegged to the faces of the principal rafters.
