Description
The cross incorporated in the war memorial is located about 2 metres from the south-west corner of the Town Hall in Bovey Tracey. This medieval structure features a cross-shaft and socket-stone dedicated to the dead of the 1914-18 and 1939-45 Wars. It is made of granite and includes a large, well-cut rectangular socket-stone with prominent moulded convex stops at each corner, which stands on a high 20th-century plinth made of granite and metal. Above the socket-stone is a tapering octagonal shaft with a square base, also featuring convex stops at each corner. The cross-head is from the 20th century. This memorial was formerly the market cross and is situated close to its original position.
