Description

Bovey Stone is located in the garden wall of Cross Cottage, about 7 metres southeast of Furzeleigh Lane in Bovey Tracey. It consists of two pieces of shaped granite, likely remnants of a medieval cross that were relocated to this site after road widening in 1815. One piece is a roughly angled granite block, probably a former socket-stone, which stands on a later rubble plinth. The other piece is an upright fragment of granite with chamfered edges, believed to be part of a cross-shaft. A small cross is incised on the face of this fragment, which was added in 1815.
