Description
Mistletoe Cottage and the adjoining cottage to the south are three cottages that have been converted into two properties. They date from the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of cob and stone, with a colourwashed and rendered finish, and feature a thatched roof with gabled ends. There are end stacks and a rear lateral stack.
The original layout is unclear but may have consisted of three single-depth cottages, with the two right-hand cottages being one cell each, while the left-hand cottage may have been two rooms wide. The two left-hand cottages are now combined into Mistletoe Cottage, which has an entrance slightly to the left of centre leading into a wide passage that contains a 19th-century stair. The left-hand room has been subdivided in the 20th century, with the chimney stack blocked, while the right-hand room is heated by a rear right corner stack; there was formerly a stair on the front wall.
The adjoining cottage on the right is likely a one-cell plan, though the interior has not been inspected. It has a single-storey entrance block added at the right end. The building is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical front with three windows on the left and one on the right. Mistletoe Cottage has a thatched porch on posts to the left of centre and 20th-century two-light transomed windows. The adjoining cottage has a first-floor two-light 19th-century window with six panes per light, a similar window on the ground floor to the left, and a two-light casement window with two panes per light on the ground floor to the right.
The interior of Mistletoe Cottage includes a stick baluster stair but has otherwise been modernized. The roof has not been inspected. A lease from 1765 is in the possession of the owner.
