Description

Warmhill Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the 17th century, with a later addition on the right side. The walls are roughcast, with stone on the ground floor and cob above. It has a thatched roof that is half-hipped at the right-hand end, and features a brick chimney shaft on the left gable and a rendered shaft on the ridge to the right. This chimney has a projection that is now inside the house, and its upper part, below the ridge, is made of cob. The cottage has a two-room plan with an added room to the right and stands two storeys high. The front has two windows, both located at the right-hand end. The left-hand window in each storey is a two-light wooden casement without glazing bars, while the right-hand window in each storey is a two-light wooden casement with small panes, featuring six panes on the ground floor and four above. There is a 20th-century door to the left.

Inside, the middle room on the ground floor has a chamfered upper-floor beam with a large stop that appears to be either a scross-stop or a rounded step-stop. The right-hand end wall, which was formerly a gable, is said to contain a large fireplace that is largely blocked, featuring a heavy wooden lintel. The left-hand room has a gable fireplace with a reused chamfered wooden lintel that has step-stops. On the second storey, between the two older rooms, there is a stud wall infilled with cob. The roof trusses, which are not fully accessible, have plain feet.
