Description

Buckridge Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century or 17th century, with a later addition at the rear. The front is rendered in stone or cob, while the rear is painted. It features a slated roof with gables at both ends. There is a 19th-century rendered stack on the right-hand gable and a projecting stack with set-offs at the rear of the left-hand room. The layout consists of two rooms and a through-passage plan, with the rear door converted to a window. Both ground floor rooms were likely heated by 17th-century fireplaces. The front has an irregular arrangement of four windows, all fitted with metal casements. The doorway is off-centre to the right and features a gabled brick porch from the 19th or 20th century, while there is a secondary doorway at the left-hand end.

Inside, the left-hand room, which was the former hall, has chamfered ceiling beams with mutilated stops. The fireplace in the rear wall has slates set on edge and a segmental brick arch, with tiny ovens on either side featuring rectangular stone openings. The smaller right-hand room has chamfered beams with step-stops and a gable fireplace with a chamfered wood lintel. At the rear, there is a projecting rectangular stair turret with a blocked stair light. The second storey and roof have not been inspected.
