Description

Two ranges of outbuildings, built around 1850 and likely contemporary with Higher Thornton Farmhouse, are located immediately north of the farmhouse. They are constructed of red sandstone with brick dressings that match the farmhouse's rear elevation, and feature slate roofs that are gabled at the ends.

The layout consists of two adjoining ranges that form a yard at the back of the farmhouse, arranged at right angles to each other. The north range is built into the slope of the land and includes loft access at the rear. The south block, which is single-storey on the right side, has undergone some alterations but remains partly open-fronted and features a chimney stack.

On the exterior, the north block has three bays and includes external steps on the right corner leading to a loft door, as well as a second loft door at the left end of the south block. The ground floor has a doorway at the left end and one four-light window. The first floor contains one two-light window and one three-light window.

The south block is two-storey at the left end, with one ground floor door on the right, a two-light window, and two two-light windows on the first floor, in addition to the loft doorway. The single-storey section on the left is open fronted, supported by iron posts, similar to the lean-to on the rear of the farmhouse. The right end has been infilled with brick and features a doorway on the right.
