Description
Brookside and Brookside Cottage are two adjoining houses, built in the early 19th century, and possibly remodelling an earlier structure. The houses are whitewashed and rendered, with a red pantile roof that is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right. There are axial stacks to the left of centre and at the right end. The plan is of an asymmetrical three-by-two-window front with regular fenestration. The ground floor has three 16-pane timber sash windows, and the first floor has five similar sash windows, except for a 12-pane sash above the front door of Brookside. There are panelled front doors, with glazed top panels. Brookside has a gabled porch, while Brookside Cottage has a sloping porch canopy. The return elevation facing Pitt Hill has two 20th-century one-light windows and one 19th-century two-light casement window with glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected, but may be of interest. The buildings are situated in a prominent position facing the church and have group value with the church, school, and Court Hall.
