Description
The Studd chest tomb, located in the north-east corner of the churchyard of the Church of All Saints, is a late 19th-century memorial made of marble and granite. It features a marble chest with a coped lid that is raised high on a marble plinth and a polished granite base. The chest is adorned with quatrefoil decoration on the ends, which continues around the sides, while the plinth is also decorated with blind tracery. The coped lid is embellished with a foliated cross. An inscription on the chest commemorates Edward Mortlock Studd, who died in 1877. Major General Studd, of Oxton, specified in his will that he should be buried in Oxton soil, which was placed in his grave.
