Description
This barn, located about 4 metres south of Nos. 3 and 4 Town Hall Place in Bovey Tracey, is likely from the 17th century. It is built from stone and cob, featuring a tarred slated roof with clay ridge tiles and a hipped end at the back. Inside, there is a hoist in the rear gable, consisting of a horizontal wooden pole projecting from the wall with a large wooden wheel at one end, and the roof is supported by 19th-century trusses. This barn, along with the farmhouse at Nos. 3 and 4 Town Hall Place, represents the only surviving town farm in Bovey Tracey that retains much of its original form, with historical evidence of an open field system of cultivation.
