Description

Pear Tree Cottage is a house, dating from around the middle of the 17th century, with a later 20th-century addition. It is constructed of stone rubble walls, incorporating some cob. The roof is thatched, with a gable at the right-hand end and a hip to the new wing. A projecting rubble stack is located at the gable end, and a brick stack is present on the wing. The original layout likely comprised a 2-room plan, with a room to the right heated by a fireplace set into the end wall. In the late 20th century, the house was nearly doubled in size by the addition of a wing at the left-hand end. The original part of the house presents an asymmetrical front with one window, featuring 19th-century small-paned 2- and 3-light casement windows on both floors. A 20th-century plank door is to the left. Inside, the open fireplace in the right-hand room has a chamfered wooden lintel.
