Description

Thatch Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 19th century, with the possibility that the left end is older. It is constructed of white-painted stone rubble, with part of the left end possibly being capped. The cottage has a thatched roof, featuring a gable end on the left that abuts an adjoining house, and a semi-conical end on the right over a rounded end wall. There is a rendered gable end stack on the left side.

The plan consists of two rooms with a central entrance. The larger room on the left is heated by the gable end stack, while the smaller room on the right has a rounded end wall and appears to be unheated. The right end of the cottage, which is currently divided by partitions, may be an early 19th-century rebuild, while the left end may be older.

The exterior has two storeys and features an almost symmetrical front with twelve windows. The windows are small late 18th-century or early 19th-century two-light casements with glazing bars, six panes per light, slate sills, and 20th-century louvred mock shutters. The doorway, located to the right of centre, has an old doorframe and a late 19th-century divided plank door. The rear elevation includes a small 20th-century window at the centre of the first floor and another in the rear of the end wall on the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected but may retain some interesting features.
