Description
A terrace of eight contemporary houses located on Victoria Road in Dartmouth, built in the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed from plastered stone rubble with brick chimney shafts, some topped with pots, and have slate roofs. Each house is double-depth, featuring a single room on the ground floor with a doorway leading to a side passage and a rear staircase. A small service block is located at the rear of the left side of each property.
The two-storey houses originally had 16 windows across the front. They feature a plastered front with a first-floor plat band, which is missing from numbers 67 and 71. Number 69 retains its original moulded stucco door surround, interrupted by blocks of vermiculated rustication. Most doorways now have 20th-century doors, but some, like number 67, retain original six-panel doors. All windows are original four-pane sashes, with unusual horizontal glazing bars; these are recessed on the ground floor and flush-framed on the first floor. The eaves are supported by shaped timber brackets. The terrace has a continuous mansard roof between the end houses, with two gabled dormers to the front of each house. Most of these dormers are original, featuring open cusped bargeboards, terracotta apex finials, and original four-pane sashes. The interiors have not been inspected.
