Description

Snapes Manor includes a core dating back to the 12th century, with a West Wing believed to have originated at that time. A medieval stone archway is visible in the porch on the courtyard side, and an original curved stairwell remains. This section of the house has undergone substantial pseudo-medieval restoration. The East Wing was built in 1784. The south-facing facade of the East Wing presents a three-storey, three-window front, with the upper floors slate-hung and featuring a cornice at the oversail. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars and exposed frames. A pediment, supported by consoles, sits above an altered doorway. A good 18th-century staircase is situated within a quadrant-shaped well.
