Description
41 Victoria Road is a mid-19th century house located in Dartmouth. It is constructed from roughcast stone rubble and features end stacks with rendered chimney shafts and old pots, topped by a hipped slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and was originally designed as a mirror image of the now-demolished No. 43.
The house stands three storeys high with attics and has a three-window front. There are plain string courses at each floor level, with bands below and a flat pilaster at the left end. Another band is located under the parapet coping, creating a horizontal panel effect around the windows. All front windows are 12-pane sashes, with the first-floor windows being taller than those on the other floors. The doorway is recessed to the right and has a plain flat stucco surround, featuring a replacement 20th-century part-glazed door. The front rises to a parapet, and the roof has a parallel design with a flat-roofed dormer at the front.
The interior has not been inspected. This house is part of a notable group of houses and shops built in the second quarter of the 19th century along New Road (now Victoria Road), which was constructed in 1825 to allow horse-drawn carriages access in and out of the town.
