Description
Manor Cottage is probably of 16th-century origin. It is constructed of rubble with a pitched and sprocketed roof, now covered with asbestos tiles to the west and corrugated asbestos to the east. The chimney has a rubble plinth and red brick stacks. The cottage is two storeys high. The east side features three ranges of casement windows; all are modern, except for a 18th-century mullion and transom window on the ground floor to the north, which was originally taken from a house on the moors. A range of modern casements is located on the south end. The south gable end is weather-boarded. Inside, two ground-floor rooms are separated by a fireplace with a staircase on its west side and a passage on its east. A granite monolith, chamfered with plain stops, is located at the end of a partition. The north room formerly had a late 16th-century plaster ceiling, and the south room previously contained a diagonally placed fireplace in the south-west corner, presumed to be from the 18th century. There are also some roughly chamfered ceiling beams.
