Description
64 Fore Street is a building that features an early 19th-century refronting of an earlier house. It has a fine plaster ceiling on the first floor, which is decorated with the Town Arms, the Prince of Wales Feathers, and the initials C.P. This ceiling was funded by town subscription following a visit from Charles, Prince of Wales, in the early 17th century. The building stands three storeys tall and has one window. It has a Welsh slate roof with projecting bracketed eaves. The masonry party walls at the east end still show a moulded corbel from the former first-floor jetty. The front is timber framed with a plastered finish. A splayed bay window extends through the first and second floors, featuring three-light sash windows with glazing bars. The modern ground floor has recessed shop fronts that still display a later 19th-century shop fascia, which is flanked by console brackets carrying urns.
