Description
No. 74 Fore Street is a later 16th-century merchant's house that has been altered and refronted in the early 19th century. The building stands three storeys tall and features a double-fronted design with three window bays. It has a Welsh slate roof and masonry party walls, with the east end still showing a moulded corbel from the first-floor jetty. The front is timber framed and plastered, adorned with pilasters that rise through the first and second floors on the quoins, supporting an entablature decorated with pattera motifs on the frieze. The first floor jetties out and has a bressumer decorated with dentils, similar to the adjacent No. 72. The windows are architraved sash windows with glazing bars; the outer bays of the first floor have two paired windows, while the ground floor features four light splayed bay windows with sashes and glazing bars, still retaining recessed shutters. There is a central architraved doorway with a raised and fielded panel door. The interior has been altered.
