Description
This is a freestanding barn, possibly dating from the early 18th century, located approximately 25 metres northeast of Oldaport. The structure is built of rubble, with some cob at the wall heads, and features a hipped roof made of corrugated iron. The barn is broad and consists of nine bays. At the upper end, which is built against a slope, there are a pair of plank loading doors at the upper level. The front of the barn, facing the house, includes a central porch with cheeks that extend to the depth of a lean-to. The doorway is situated on a high concrete step, opposite a small square stable door. To the left of the main door, there are two plank doors leading to animal houses, and to the right, there is a long store that opens towards the porch. The lower gable has two small openings set high. Inside, the barn features a series of pegged but not framed A-frames and five-light purlins, with no intermediate flooring present. It is likely that the barn was originally thatched and had lofts. This barn is an important part of the layout of Oldaport.
