Description
Mud Bank Cottage is a cottage located by a creek, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a thatched roof with both hipped and gabled ends. The cottage has one and a half storeys and includes two windows, which are 19th-century two-light casements with chamfered frames. The first floor has small gabled dormers that extend through the eaves. A central plank door is present, and the ground floor openings have flat stone arches. There is a large stone chimney stack at one gable end and another at the rear. At the back, there is a single-storey rear outshot and a 20th-century lean-to at the southwest end. Originally built as a fishing house, Mud Bank Cottage is situated near a dam that was created at the head of a creek on the estuary of the River Yealm, forming a lake in the landscaped park of Kitley House, designed by G.S. Repton in Yealmpton parish.
