Description
Manor House is an 18th-century house with extensions, situated on Coronation Road. The main north-south range is flanked by wings on the west side. It is two storeys high. Originally, the east facade presented a symmetrical arrangement of windows, initially 2:1 (now blocked) 2:1:2, but this has been altered. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, featuring a rendered stack and a coved eaves cornice. The front is constructed from random, Devonian limestone rubble, with rendered returns. Late 18th-century sash windows, recessed and with plain cement surrounds and glazing bars, are found throughout; the outer and central bays have paired windows. A late 18th-century wooden portico, in the Greek Doric style, provides access, with the outer columns now replaced by modern granite piers. The doorway is accompanied by side-lights and a half-glazed door. A well-preserved panelled room on the ground floor features raised and fielded panelling, doors, a boxed-out coved cornice, a French window flanked by fluted pilasters, and a bolection moulded overmantel from a former chimney piece. The room has a restored plaster ceiling with moulded ribwork. An open-well staircase has a panelled dado, closed string, turned balusters, square newels, and a moulded handrail.
