Description
Town Mills, part of Harris's Bacon Factory, is a 17th century or earlier tide mill that was raised in height and had its windows altered in the early 19th century. It was used as a corn mill until 1945. The building has a T-shaped plan and stands 2½ storeys tall, replacing a 1 storey structure. It features a Welsh slate roof with a hipped gable and a dormer at the south end. The original mill is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble, with later additions in random rubble. The building has two-light casement windows with glazing bars and timber lintels, although some have been replaced with brick segmental arches. There is an old doorway at the south end with a timber lintel, a boarded door, and a sidelight. The main entrance is located at the north end and includes chamfered door posts, a stable door, and two-light doors with a hoist above.
