Description
The bothy, located approximately 220 metres south west of Gnaton Hall, is a gardener's bothy dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of slate rubble with red brick dressings and has a trefoil shape with a trefoiled conical roof, which was probably originally thatched. At the apex of the roof is a trefoiled brick chimney stack. The building is single storey and features four-centred arch gothic casement windows with Y-tracery and glazing bars, set in red brick arch openings. The central doorway is a reset 16th-century granite four-centred arch with roll moulding and carved spandrels. The bothy is positioned in the centre of the splay on the west side of the kitchen garden, on a raised terrace. The 16th-century doorway has been reused from an earlier house on or near the site, as indicated by a large stone set into a nearby 19th-century stable range, which is inscribed "PER W: A Hele AR : 1596".
